What are the best items in Warcodes? Gems and Stones

Warcodes provides an amazing rendition of rock-paper-scissors-like gameplay and items or buffs and debuffs make this game that much more fun. Each creature can be customized with 4 different items and yes they have to be different. You cannot double up on the same item(s) for 1 creature. Let’s get into what are the best items in Warcodes.

Let's start with arguably the 2 strongest items. The Aegis Stone and the Wrathstone. The Aegis stone forces the attacker to use 1 less die when attacking with the damage type your creature is resistant to. For example, if your creature has a resistance to Dark Damage your opponent's creature will use 1 less die for the initial resistance and 1 less die due to the Aegis Stone effect. The opponent cannot use less than 1 die to attack but this is a game changer if your opponent is stacked with attack dice. Meaning, if your opponent has 5 attack dice, they will only use 3 of those dice to attack. The Aegis stone is a must have item for every creature at level 5, that’s when the KOTH battles get really interesting.

The Wrathstone does almost the opposite. It adds an additional die to your creature's attack dice when it is attacking your opponent's creature's weakness. For example, if your opponent's creature's weakness is Fire and your creature’s main or secondary attack is Fire, your creature will use 1 extra attack die for all Fire Type attacks and a second additional attack die provided by the Wrathstone. Meaning, if your creature has 5 attack dice for its main attack it will use 7 attack dice while equipped with the Wrathstone. This is a great item for taking over a hill with a tank-type (high health) creature. The Wrathstone is a great item for low-health, high-accuracy, high-agility creatures because it allows them to do massive amounts of damage in one blow. This will leave them quite squishy (easy to kill) but is great for getting rid of that annoying 100+ health creature that has been KOTH for hours.

Next, your creatures must have items. We’ll start with the Large Celestial Shard. All of your creatures need to have this item. What it does is adds additional die to your creatures attack at the cost of -3 attack damage on the total damage. This is made to look like a debuff but it’s really a giant buff. For example, If your creature has 2 D12’s, with the Large Celestial Shard equipped, your creature will use 3 D12’s when it attacks. Meaning, your creature's max damage goes from 24 to 33 (36 - 3). This extra 9 damage is a game changer at all times. You just win more.

Let’s stay on topic, the Flareheart Crystal is not an essential item but can put your creature on top on most occasions. At the cost of 5% of your creature's total health, it gains an additional attack die. Paired with the Large Celestial Shard, your creature now uses 4 D12’s for its regular attack.

There’s one more item that adds an additional die to your creature's attack, the Battle Runestone. This item is also non-essential but might be a good choice for 2 reasons. 1. You don’t want your creature's look/art to change when adding a secondary attack or 2. You want to add an additional attack die to your creature's attack. Whichever your reason, equipping the Battle Runestone is how you get a 5 attack dice creature.

The next 3 items are great addons when your creature needs a small boost in certain areas the game doesn’t really allow big changes. Your creature's accuracy and secondary attack. First we have the Large Eyestone. This item increases your creature's main-attack accuracy rolls by 1. For example, if your creature has a D10 accuracy die, your max accuracy roll is now 11. Second we have the Small Eyestone, this item increases your creature’s secondary-attack accuracy rolls by 1. Third we have the Small Celestial Shard, this item increases your creature’s secondary attack dice by 1 for the cost of -3 max damage. For example, if your creature has 2 D8 dice to use for its secondary attack, with the Small Celestial Shard equipped, it will use 3 D8 dice. Meaning, with 2 D8’s your creatures max damage was 16, now with the Small Celestial Shard equipped its max damage will be 21 (24 - 3). This is not a good item if your creature's secondary attack uses 2 D6 dice because its max damage goes from 12 to 15 (18 - 3) or if your creature's secondary attack uses 2 D4 dice because your max damage goes from 8 to 9 (12 - 3). There are better items to use on those 2 occasions.
